Hubba, Hubba, Hubba: Who Do You Trust?

The Blogosphere has exploded into a caustic civil war between Trump supporters, Cruz supporters, and Republican Establishment types who hate both, but appear to have chosen a side. Trump’s vocal support of Corporate subsidies appears to have excited the GOP establishment into trusting that Trump really is ready to cut deals with all the powerful special interests in Washington D.C., and, not needing to be told what to do when they hear the special interest call to arms, have, in large numbers, preceded to attack Senator Cruz with everything they’ve got. Which isn’t much, except to say that they all hate him.

However, many of our conservative brethren continue to support Donald Trump, despite the fact that he’s been a financier of Democrats, a friend to the Clinton’s, a Democrat voter, is owned by dozens of banks, and continues to display the nastiest persona in American political history.

Our conservative friends are not without their reasons however, so, we must at least listen to what they have to say on the matter.

Our friend Tom White, over at Virginia Right, has explained his support of Donald Trump. Tom White argues that he has listened to and understands many of our criticisms of Donald Trump, but that he believes we need a candidate who will do the following:

  • Stop nation building and constant wars. These countries are not ready nor are they compatible with Democracy. And America today is no shining example of Democracy anyway.

  • Our military has become a joke under Obama. We are weak and ill prepared.

  • Let’s have a foreign policy built on strength instead of leading from behind.

  • Terrorists belong in Gitmo. Not the US court system.

  • Stop the currency manipulation from China.

  • Treat OPEC like an organized crime mob. An oil cartel is no different than a drug cartel.

  • Secure the freaking border. Build a wall. And enforce the laws already on the books.

  • Repeal Obamacare and replace it with a well thought out plan and limit lawsuits.

  • Fix the out of control spending.

  • But take care of our people and keep the promises of Medicare and Social Security.

  • Reform welfare (again). The reforms from the Clinton Administration are gone and we have massively increased welfare.

  • Climate Change is a hoax. Kill it.

  • Common Core should be scrapped.

  • Stop funding abortionists

  • Leave my guns the hell alone.

  • Let states decide who can marry whom.

  • Stop refugees until we can properly vet them. Better yet, kill ISIS and send them all home.

  • Protect Christianity. Jews and Christians are being killed all over the world by Muslims. That MUST stop.

  • Make Political Correctness politically incorrect.

  • Jobs. We need jobs, jobs and jobs. Bring them back!

Therefore, he argues:

  • I don’t care if Trump is not very Conservative. I don’t need him to be conservative, just fix the things on my list. Big money is not going to own him.

  • I don’t care if Trump is not a good Christian. I’m not saying he is not, I wouldn’t make that judgment. But he understands that Christians and Jews are under siege and he plans to put a stop to it. His relationship with God is between him and Him.

  • I don’t care if Trump has New York Values. I don’t even know what that means. Just fix the stuff on my list.

  • I don’t care if Trump is rude, crude and socially unacceptable. Just fix the stuff on my list.

  • I don’t care if you call me or Trump a racist, nativist, xenophobe, homophobe, or jerk. Just fix the stuff on my list.

  • I don’t care if Trump is in favor of eminent domain. He believes the land owners should be well compensated. You can’t build the Keystone Pipeline without it. But it is not something a president would use. Just fix the stuff on my list.

So for all of the people who support some other candidate and can’t figure why us Trump supporters don’t give a rip about all those reasons you keep tossing out expecting us to run away from Trump, I don’t care. We don’t care.

For those of us desperately supporting Senator Ted Cruz, we’ve been dismayed by our inability to reason with Trump supporters, trying our best to demonstrate why we think Donald Trump is so dangerous. Tom White has, more than anyone in the country, demonstrated why our arguments and logic appear to be falling on deaf ears. If Donald Trump accomplishes Tom’s list, that’s all that matters. The rest of these issues, they don’t care.

However, the one element that Tom White forgets is that, for most of us, we don’t trust that Donald Trump will do half of what he says he’s going to do. We don’t believe he’ll fix Tom’s list and even if he does fix Tom’s list, if that means incinerating the United States Constitution, then, no thank you! We want a Constitutionalist in the White House. We want a Conservative in the White House. All these things we’re saying about Donald Trump aren’t meant to make people who like him, dislike him. It’s meant to make people who trust him, distrust him.

The fact is, you can’t trust Donald Trump. No Trump supporter has given me any reason to trust him. They tell me that he’s going to make America Great, and close the border, and deport the bad people, and fix the economy, take on China, and take on Russia… why? Why do you believe that? Because Trump said so? Do any of you have any reason to believe (trust) Donald Trump?

Wishing Donald Trump was for real is a gigantic gamble. You are risking the future of the Republican Party and the future of the United States on a man that has taken every position under the sun. Yet, you trust him. Why? We don’t trust establishment candidates that say one thing and do another, but we’re suppose to trust The Donald?

The rest of the conservatives in America don’t trust Trump. We don’t believe he means what he says. We don’t believe he even understands what’s required to do all the things he says he wants to do; and why should we?

Has he ever gotten substantive? No.

Has he ever said how he’ll do what he’ll do? No.

All he does is repeat rhetoric. It’s good rhetoric, but that’s all it is. He’s got no substance. He’s given us no reason to trust him.

So if you trust Donald Trump, if you’ve found some reason to believe in him, despite all the evidence before you, please, share it with the rest of the class. The rest of us don’t trust Trump, and so we are backing a consistent, proven Conservative and Constitutionalist in Senator Ted Cruz.

Thank you so much for expressing so well what I have been thinking about. I hope that many people will ponder the questions that you have asked and give real thought to their answers.

The Trump supporters have the mantra “don’t confuse me with the facts I have my mind made up”. Makes no logical sense and we are in a battle for the very souls of our party and our nation.

I don’t like or trust any of them. They are all a bunch of liars.
