Of the Virginia Republican Delegation, only Barbara Comstock and Scott Rigell joined Speaker Paul Ryan and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (and 100% of the Democrat Delegation in Virginia) in passing a $1.1 Trillion Omnibus bill. Congressmen Wittman, Forbes, Hurt, Goodlatte, Griffith, and Brat all voted against it.
Over the last six years, conservatives have tried to pressure the Republican Party toward fiscal responsibility. We gave the Republicans the House and the Senate and we expected leadership. Now, the Republican and Democrat establishments are having a terrific laugh at our expense. While I am proud of our Virginia Republicans (minus Comstock and Rigell), I am disappointed in our Congressional Republican Leadership.
I know it is difficult to find a bright side this afternoon, because this bill will be difficult to overcome, but as Virginia Republicans, we should be grateful that so many of our Republican Congressmen stood on principle and voted against this reckless and irresponsible piece of legislation that funded every single legislative priority of President Barack Obama.
